BASIC FACTS
Besides heart attack and tumor, diabetes mellitus (its two types: type 1 and type II) is one of the most common diseases in the western world. Type I with its explicit insulin deficiency is mainly found in adolescents while type II diabetes mellitus is the most common form in elderly patients.
Due to various factors, such as obesity, inappropriate diet and also genetic predisposition, individual cells in the body do not react to the body’s own blood sugar levels. Thus, the body is no longer able to absorb sugar from blood and supply its cells with this important nutrient. Besides, in the long term the resulting high blood sugar levels cause permanent damage to the vascular system and the organs.
The balanced composition of Diabetichron® is able to counteract this insulin resistance and thus support the physiological regulation of glucose metabolism even in diabetics. Many serious late complications of diabetes, caused by excessively high sugar levels, such as nerve damage, pain, blindness, heart disease and rapid aging can be reduced or arrested.
Furthermore, the special composition of Diabetichron®, developed on the basis of chronobiological principles, guarantees highest levels of the active substance and also ensures that the required substances are available at the right time of day.

EFFECTS
Diabetichron® with its various components adjusted to the respective daily requirements, acts on the very complex glucose metabolism at various sites. Schematically the individual effects may be summarized as follows:
Reduction of blood sugar levels: Extracts such as those of the banaba leaf facilitate the direct flow of sugar from blood into cells. By combining these with plant extracts of bitter lemon and Gymnema sylvestre, which act at an early stage and reduce the absorption of sugar molecules from the intestines into blood, the absorption of sugar is reduced, the utilization of sugar improved, and a significant reduction of blood sugar levels is achieved.
Activation of the insulin receptor: Particularly in cases of type II diabetes mellitus, the reduced sensitivity of the insulin receptor at the respective target cells plays a special role in pathogenesis. Substances such as vanadium sulfate were shown to increase the functional capacity of these important docking sites for insulin in an enduring way. Furthermore, the supplementation of chromium, particularly in its most active biological form – chromium polynicotinate – is such that the effect of insulin is much greater as soon as it is deposited at the specific receptor. These substances in combination allow more efficient and, simultaneously, physiological correct functioning of the insulin receptor.
Fat burning: In diabetics the non-optimum utilization of blood sugar is frequently accompanied by a disturbance of the utilization of fat. In these cases, food supplements based on L-carnitine help to normalize fat burning. Furthermore, enzymes such as lipases, proteases and amylases help to achieve better digestion and utilization of nutrients. This is supported, among many factors by specific extracts of fennel or other plants rich in bioflavonoids.
Antioxidants: One of the results of the persistently high blood sugar levels in diabetics is that oxidative processes cause large quantities of free radicals to be formed. These accompanying and degenerative products of many metabolic processes are highly reactive and cause general destruction of cells and tissue structures. Adequate anti-oxidative treatment is therefore essential for optimized food supplementation in diabetics. One of the most well known antioxidants is alpha lipoic acid (ALA), which is frequently termed the «universal antioxidant» because it is able to regenerate vitamin C and co-enzyme Q10, two further important antioxidants.
In humans ALA is produced in the liver and in other tissues, where it serves as a natural co-factor of multi-enzyme complexes such as pyruvate dehydrogenase. ALA plays an important role in mitochondrial processes by which energy for the body is derived from glucose. Furthermore, ALA improves the symptoms of diabetic neuropathies. With advancing age, however, the body’s own production of ALA is reduced and the body becomes increasingly dependent on the intake of ALA-containing foodstuffs. However, significant quantities of ALA are contained only in red meat. This makes it necessary for many persons to take it as a supplement.
The composition of antioxidants in Diabetichron® is completed by the addition of vitamin C and E – two substances also known for their anti-oxidative effects.

INDICATIONS
Diabetichron® is a new food supplement, specially harmonized to suit the needs of persons suffering from type II diabetes mellitus. The carefully synchronized composition and the differentiation of substances for the day and the night guarantee highest active substance levels of the individual components on the one hand, and ensure best possible tolerance on the other.
